Affidavit vs Power of Attorney: What Is the Difference?

These two documents are used for different purposes, and choosing the wrong one can waste time and money.

Affidavit. A written statement of facts that you swear or affirm is true. It is used to state something, for example your name, address, relationship, or that a document is genuine.

Power of Attorney. A document in which you authorise another person to act for you, for example to sell property, appear before an office or handle a bank matter, within the limits you set.

Key difference. An affidavit says "this is true". A power of attorney says "this person may act for me".

Before you sign. Check names exactly as on your CNIC, state clearly what the agent may and may not do, and add an end date if you want one. Stamp paper and attestation requirements depend on the purpose, so confirm with the office that will receive the document.
