Rent Agreement Format in Pakistan: A Clause Checklist

There is no single magic format, but a good rent agreement follows a clear order. Use this checklist to see whether yours is complete.

Parties. Full names and CNIC numbers of landlord and tenant, and addresses.

Property. The exact address and what is included, such as parking or furniture.

Term. Start date, how long the tenancy runs and how it can be renewed.

Rent. The monthly amount, the date it is due, how it is paid and any yearly increase.

Deposit. The amount, what it covers and when and how it is returned.

Utilities and repairs. Who pays which bills and who handles small and large repairs.

Use and subletting. Whether the property is for residence or business and whether the tenant may sublet.

Ending the tenancy. Notice each side must give and the condition the property should be returned in.

Signatures and witnesses. Both parties sign, with witnesses where required.

Stamp paper and registration requirements depend on the city and the tenancy period, so confirm what applies. Need one written for you? See our rent agreement service, or read the common mistakes to avoid.
